    Incendies, directed by Denis Villeneuve and based on a play by Wajdi Mouawad, has captured the Best Canadian Film prize at the Vancouver International Film Festival (VIFF). The film, which also won the same accolade at the Toronto International Film Festival in September, concerns twins who journey to the Middle East to satisfy their mother’s dying wish only to uncover shocking family secrets.

(PS) has announced the hiring of Eleanor O’Connor as senior vice president of strategy and operations, and the appointment of Rae Thurston as executive vice president and chief operating officer. O’Connor joins PS from a multi-national competitor, where she held the position of vice president, Canadian operations. Ms. O’Connor will be a key contributor to the development and implementation of the company’s overall strategic and operational direction.

    Sony has unveiled the first HD television based on Google TV, the search giant’s fledgling effort to marry broadcast TV with the interweb. Last week, Logitech took the wraps off a $299.99 Google TV settop box, but Sony has integrated Google’s Android-based platform with the television itself.

Running from Nov. 9 to 15, Reel Asian brings more than 50 films and videos from 12 countries to local screens.
