    “Resident Evil: Afterlife” is the top-grossing Canadian film ever, with a global box office take of $280 million, it was announced Monday. It has beaten previous title-holder “Porky’s.” Both pics were produced by Toronto-based filmmaker Don Carmody.

  • Screen Actors Guild, AFTRA reach tentative agreement with Hollywood studios on 3-year contract

    Two film industry unions have agreed to a proposed contract from Hollywood movie and television studios in a tentative deal that would eliminate the threat of an actors’ strike for at least three years. AFTRA and SAG reached the agreement with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers after more than two months of negotiations. The agreement announced Sunday would increase benefit contributions to health and retirement funds by 10 per cent, bringing the total contribution rate to 16.5.
