Citytv anchor Mark Dailey dies
Tuesday December 07th 2010Mark Dailey, anchor of Canadian news broadcast “CityNews,” died Dec. 6 of kidney cancer in a hospital in Toronto. He was 57.
For more than 30 years, Dailey worked with Citytv delivering stories to the greater Toronto area. As an anchor for “CityNews at Six” and “CityNews Tonight,” Dailey became the voice of Toronto.
He got his start with Citytv in 1979 as an assignment editor and producer before becoming the station’s crime specialist and, ultimately, news anchor.
“He taught us all the meaning of professionalism and how to develop a love of the task at hand,” said fellow anchor Gord Martineau. “His sense of comedic timing was always offered at just the right time to take the stress away from the job. He was a true original.”
During his career, Dailey received a Radio and Television News Directors Assn. award for his “I Want Work” series.
“He has left an imprint on our station and community forever,” said Jamie Haggarty, exec veep of TV operations for Rogers Media.
Dailey is survived by his wife, Kim, and a daughter.
