Kidman, De Niro and Fiennes films added to Toronto Fest lineup
Thursday August 18th 2011The Toronto International Film Festival has announced newly added films to the event, taking place September 8-18, including features starring Robert De Niro, Clive Owen, Ralph Fiennes, Nicole Kidman, Nicolas Cage and James Gandolfini.
The festival released news that Page Eight by British writer/director David Hare will close TIFF. The spy thriller stars Ralph Fiennes, Bill Nighy, Michael Gambon (Harry Potter), Rachel Weisz (The Whistleblower), and Judy Davis (Marie Antoinette).
French director Christophe Honore will receive a gala for The Beloved starring the mother and daughter Catherine Deneuve and Chiara Mastroianni.
Jennifer Hudson and Terence Howard will appear for the world premiere of Winnie, the Canada/South African production about Winnie Mandela, the wife of Nelson Mandela.
Eighteen titles were added to the Special Presentations. TIFF will also premiere:
– Joel Schumacher’s Trespass starring Nicolas Cage and Nicole Kidman
– Irish writer/director Ian FitzGibbon’s Death of a Superhero starring Andy Serkis
– Intruders, by Spanish director Juan Carlos Fresnadillo and starring Clive Owen
– Anne Fontaine’s My Worst Nightmare, starring Isabelle Huppert
– Violet & Daisy, about girls and guns, with Saoirse Ronan and James Gandolfini
– Tanya Wexler’s Hysteria, a romantic comedy with Maggie Gyllenhaal, Jonathan Pryce and Rupert Everett
The Contemporary World Cinema section added 51 titles. Among the international filmmakers from India to Hong Kong, a world premiere is set for The First Man by Italian director Gianni Amelio, based on an adaptation of Albert Camus’s autobiographical last novel and Australian director Julia Leigh’s Sleeping Beauty, starring Emily Browning.
James Franco and Gus Van Sant will present a moving image installation, including a collaboration entitled Memories of Idaho, a film about the cultural impact of Van Sant’s 1991 film My Own Private Idaho starring the late River Phoenix.
Another performance artist, Mr. Brainwash, aka Thierry Guetta, made famous in the Banksy film Exit Through the Gift Shop, will also launch installations including a collaboration with the festival’s exhibition on Grace Kelly.
