After a successful launch in 2010, the feature film networking and co-production program Producers Lab Toronto was back this year again at the Toronto International Film Festival. The Producers Lab is an initiative of the European Film Promotion (EFP), the OMDC and TIFF to gather experienced film producers from across Europe together with a similar number of Canadian producers for 3 days of programming at the start of the Festival. The objective is to exchange projects, build knowledge, grow relationships and support partnership building for the financing, production and distribution of Canadian-European co-productions.
Liddell Entertainment has picked up the US rights to Killer Joe, the thriller from William Friedkin starring Matthew McConaughey and Emile Hirsch. The movie had its North American premiere at TIFF Sunday to mixed reaction.

Set in the early 1900s, the visual effects team at Mr. X was responsible for recreating and enhancing the period feel of the film. The Toronto Independent Film Festival, not to be confused with the Toronto International Film Festival, runs September 8th to 17th this year at the Toronto Underground Cinema and provides an opportunity for undiscovered filmmakers working with micro-budgets to showcase their achievements in the same city where the film industry’s key players have gathered.
