  • Director Tony Scott Dead Of Apparent Suicide

    Tony Scott, best known as the director of Top Gun, has committed suicide. Scott leaped off the Vincent Thomas Bridge today, and police found notes in both his car and his office. The note in his office was a suicide note. He was 68 years old.

  • Ottawa film fest starts today

    The Ottawa International Film Festival starts Thursday, Aug. 16, with a series of screenings at the Empire theatre in the World Exchange Centre (111 Albert). Through Sunday the festival will bring together local and international independent films, often with a chance to meet the film-makers. For example, The Day (8 p.m. Saturday) is a post-apocalyptic race for survival, and after the screening is a Q & A with Rob Menzies, a producer at Zed Filmworks.

  • Harvey Weinstein to Host Closing Banquet at Toronto’s Asian Film Summit

    Harvey Weinstein will host the closing banquet for the inaugural Asian Film Summit at the Toronto International Film Festival. The summit will also feature a film financing panel with Bruno Wu of the Seven Stars Entertainment, Stuart Ford of IM Global and Kenneth Tan from Media Development Authority Singapore, as well as a global talent panel featuring ICM’s David Unger, Andrew Ooi of Echelon and Loeb and Loeb’s Stephen Saltzman.
