Cosmopolitan TV to come to Canada

TORONTO (CP) _ A specialty television channel inspired by the sexy magazine Cosmopolitan is coming to Canada. Cosmopolitan Television will air movies, comedy and drama series, and relationship and self-help reality shows when it arrives early next year, officials said Thursday in a release.

The channel is a joint venture from U.S. media giant Hearst Corp. and Canada’s Corus Entertainment Inc. The 24-hour digital channel is targeted at women ages 18 to 34 and is inspired by the fashion magazine nicknamed Cosmo, a publication best known for offering sex tips.

There are already Cosmopolitan Television networks in more than 20 countries around the world, including Spain, Argentina and Mexico.

Typical programming in Spain, where the channel launched in 2000, includes episodes of the raunchy New York series "Sex and the City," the teen drama "One Tree Hill" and the supernatural show "Charmed."
