Canada commercials contract lapses

TORONTO — Negotiations between Canadian advertisers and actors on a new collective agreement that covers U.S. commercial shoots are headed into overtime.

The Alliance of Canadian Cinema, Television and Radio Artists and the Association of Canadian Advertisers and the Institute of Canadian Advertising, which represents domestic commercial producers and advertisers, failed to meet a July 31 deadline to agree terms for a new National Commercial Agreement.

Both parties, which remain subject to a media blackout, will now meet with a federal ministry of labor conciliator Sept. 3 and 4 to attempt hammer out a new deal.

The Canadian advertisers and actors also agreed to operate under the terms and conditions of the current agreement through a conciliation phase.
