Cookie Jar expands to Korea

TORONTO — Cookie Jar Entertainment has opened a satellite office in South Korea, with CJ Lee as vp of distribution.

Toronto-based Cookie Jar hired Lee, most recently managing director and consultant for animation producer GIMC, to handle TV sales and develop licensing programs in South Korea.

Lee will also focus on production and development opportunities in the Asian market as he reports to Hideki Kunugiyama, managing director of Cookie Jar’s Tokyo-based CPLG Asia/Pacific operation.

Privately-held Cookie Jar, best known for its “Caillou,” “Inspector Gadget” and “The Doodlebops” cartoon series, expanded last year after acquiring Burbank-based DIC Entertainment for $83 million.

On the licensing side, Cookie Jar has recently expanded its portfolio of third-party brands, including representation for Varsity, the U.S. cheerleading and dance team apparel maker, and The Harlem Globetrotters pro sports entertainment franchise.
