Deluxe has completed its acquisition of Ascent Media’s creative and media services business.
The New Year’s Eve announcement formalized a tectonic shift in the Hollywood post-production landscape, with Company 3, Beast, Method, Rushes, Encore Hollywood and Level 3 Post now part of the Deluxe family of companies.
By adding these companies to eFilm and its other post offerings, Deluxe has positioned itself to remain an important studio vendor even when the shift to digital capture and projection threatens its traditional lab business.
Technicolor is also a major player in post, setting up the two companies to continue their decades-old rivalry. Prime Focus and Reliance MediaWorks, with roots in Bollywood, are newer to the post wars in Los Angeles; they keep the lab giants from extending their well-established duopoly to post-production.
