Banff to fete Eugene Levy
Thursday March 03rd 2011TORONTO — Canadian funnyman Eugene Levy will receive the Award of Excellence at the Banff World Media Festival, it was announced Wednesday.
The multihyphenate will give a masterclass focusing on his on-screen career as part of the fest.
Levy hit the smallscreen as a cast member of the influential “SCTV” sketch comedy series that ran on Canuck TV from 1976 to 1984, and began airing in the U.S. in 1981. Since then he has performed in more than 40 features, including the “American Pie” series and four Christopher Guest films, which he also co-wrote.
Levy, a native of Hamilton, Ontario, has received several Canuck honors, including a star on the Canadian Walk of Fame, several Canadian comedy awards and, in 2008, the Governor General’s Performing Arts Award, which is considered Canada’s most prestigious artistic honor.
Levy stars in the upcoming hockey comedy “Goon,” penned by Jay Baruchel and Evan Goldberg and helmed by Michael Dowse (“Fubar”).
