Extension of film tax credit program unanimously passed by Alaska Senate
Thursday April 07th 2011JUNEAU, Alaska – State senators have unanimously approved an extension for a film tax credit program in Alaska.
The tax credit program will offer $200 million in additional credits and extend for another 10 years past its 2013 expiration date.
Sen. Johnny Ellis, the Democratic sponsor of the bill, says the measure will put Alaskans to work while ensuring that credits are handed out in an accountable manner.
A reality show starring former Gov. Sarah Palin received $1.2 million in tax credits under the existing tax credit scheme.
Language in the new legislation specifically limits the amount of tax credits reality television shows can receive.
Senate Bill 23 heads to the House for consideration.
