Apple is courting HBO, Viacom and ESPN for long-rumoured Apple television

According to Quartz, Apple is in talks with Viacom, HBO, Disney, ESPN and numerous other production companies, about creating a new content service for their often-rumoured full-fledged Apple television.

Apple’s plan is to bundle channels into apps that stream content directly to Apple’s special television, which has yet to be announced. Basically, it sounds like Apple is creating its own special brand of smart TVs. This project has been rumoured for years but we still haven’t heard anything other than rumours about it yet.

The future of this device probably hinges on Apple’s ability to convince major content providers to allow its customers to directly access their service, without traditional cable.

Of course the usual Apple intuitive UI would play a big role in this rumoured Apple television. It will also probably work and look better than any other smart TV on the market and be expensive, just like many other Apple products on the market. When it comes to Apple products, you often get what you pay for, though.

Apple already has the Apple TV, a set-top box that plugs into the back of televisions and works with apps like Netflix and content purchased from Apple’s iTunes store. According to Quartz’s sources, this new television’s goal is to completely remove the need for any kind of cable box in people’s living room.
