Jimmy Kimmel to host 2016 Emmys

Jimmy Kimmel is officially hosting this year’s Emmy Awards.

“I am hosting the #Emmys on Sunday, Sept 18. Until then, have a great summer,” host of ABC’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live” tweeted early Monday morning.

Variety exclusively reported last month that Kimmel was in talks with ABC to host the 68th Primetime Emmy Awards.

“I am excited to be hosting the Emmys again,” Kimmel said in a statement on Monday. “I have a feeling I’m going to be great.”

This year’s show will mark Kimmel’s second time as Emmys host following his stint in 2012, when it last aired on ABC. The telecast rotates each year among the four broadcast network. Seth Meyers — another late-night host — emceed the ceremony in 2014, when NBC aired the telecast, while Jimmy Fallon hosted in 2010 while he was still at the helm of “Late Night.”

“Brooklyn Nine-Nine” star Andy Samberg tackled hosting duties last year when Fox carried the show.

“Jimmy Kimmel is the consummate showman,” ABC Entertainment President Channing Dungey said. “With Kimmel at the helm, expect to be at the edge of your seat for a bigger, bolder, and better-than-ever Emmy event.”

Kimmel hss also emceed the ESPY Awards, the American Music Awards and the White House Correspondents’ Dinner.

The 68th Primetime Emmy Awards will air live on ABC from L.A.’s Microsoft Theater (formerly Nokia Theater) at 5 p.m. PT on Sept. 18. Nominations will be announced on July 14.

Meanwhile, Creative Arts Emmy Awards will take place over two nights, Sept. 10 and 11, the Television Academy also announced Monday.
